Winning Content Ideas

Winning content ideas don’t have to be hard to find! Simply look around, what are you doing every day? What are products and services do you use most? What do you do in your life that inspires you to create content?

Sometimes it can help to think about it as documenting your life rather than posting. Then it becomes about storytelling! People want to know what you do in your daily life, how you’re using your favorite products, etc. That type of content is authentic and will resonate with your audience. Simply opening your cabinet and seeing what’s in there and what you love, and then creating content around that is a real simple place to start finding content ideas.

Other inspiration sources are looking at the calendar. There are national days for everything under the sun. You can look at this website or even google it. There’s National Peanut Brittle Day, National Rose Day, National Chocolate Day, you name it! What I do is I’ll scan it and see if something really ties into my life. There’s so much out there, some of it will be irrelevant. For example, I have nothing to do with national bowling pin day, I have no content I can create about that, because I don’t bowl, but there might be some days that inspire you to create content.

Another place to find content are social causes that are near and dear to your heart, current news events, trending hashtags, memes. Google Search Trends is a neat resource because you can see what people are searching and you can make really, really timely content. So, for instance if you see that people are searching on Boba Tea or nail polish trends, you might create some content around that.

Google Search Trends also has different categories you can utilize. Think about someone who consults with businesses, you can view what businesses are researching in the social media category. Pinterest also has a Trend Report that is amazing. They’re very ahead of what ideas are about to explode. Or, it’s great just to look around the pins in general. You can use these tools to find ideas to create content around, depending on what your niche or interests are.

My favorite thing on the whole planet is called the Cassandra Report. It’s a free report and every day I get emailed trends. Some of them are interesting, and some of them aren’t, but that is actually how I got inspired to contact Domino’s about making a baby registry for them. It is a very cool report, and probably not something that everyone knows about.

Finally, creating a plan, starting small and starting simple. Don’t come out of the gate trying to do too much, because you want to be consistent. You don’t want to strive for perfection and you want to give yourself some grace. Many of you are like me, you’re raising a family, you have a full plate, and you’re trying to create a career for yourself as well. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself, because that makes it that much easier to give up. Start small and consistent and watch it grow!
